The Single Sears Home in Owaneco, Illinois
During my long drive through the Illinois countryside, I found this Sears Hollywood sitting just off the main drag in the tiny town of Owaneco, Illinois. The house is a spot-on match to the original catalog image, but this poor Hollywood is in poor shape.
Some of its flesh is missing and the skeletal system is also showing some signs of decay.
Perhaps someone from Owaneco will find this post and let the owner know that his old bungalow is actually a historically significant Sears Home!

This is my house, I grew up in it. Being a poor family with mouths too feed, we just did what we had to get by with what we had. My family is currently remodeling this house, your right the outside is ugly. If you would like some pictures of the inside let me know. Inside is in alot better shape then the outside, but i guess what you could say is dont judge this book by its cover.
It’s in rough shape - for sure - but I love, love, LOVE this house! And I’d much rather see a fine old house “raw” but restorable, than to see it slathered in beige vinyl siding. In my drive through Illinois, this Hollywood in Owaneco was one of my favorite finds! And yes - I’d love to see the inside - but I won’t be back in Illinois for a few weeks.
