Dear Ms. Thornhill,

I have read several of your posts and find them incredibly interesting and well written. I have two of your books on Sears homes since I just purchased one. Your interest in turn of the century "house-keeping" is fascinating to me. I'm very much a student of the evolution of women in the 20th century; what influenced them, the catalysts for changing trends, etc. I am the very proud owner of a Sears Magnolia, which from my research, you know about. I have recent archives from c. 2005 of correspondence between you and Kathy Carlton, the former owner of this home. I wanted to extend her invitation to you if you ever find yourself in the Pittsburgh area, to come visit our home.

We just moved in. I'm enamored by this home. It's definitely NOT a standard Magnolia, many modifications were made, but it certainly has its own charm. We are blessed to raise our family here.

I look forward to reading more of your blog.
Sincerely,
Maria Wills

I know that this doesn't have much to do with first dates, but I want to tell you that I decided that I am going to permanently leave eHarmony. Dating should be enjoyable, along with meeting prospective dates, it shouldn't be a self-esteem vacuum that sucks the joy out of feeling good about something that God has given us to desire: relationship and community. I think that eHarmony works for some, but I am not too thrilled with the format and I don't think that the way it works is good for my personality. The features allow people to close you out without forcing them to craft a statement, thus, it enables people to hide behind a computer screen more. I have enough going on in my life - and too many things to enjoy as spring is right around the corner. BTW, I enjoy reading your blog posts about Sears Kit homes and other vintage things in addition to that. Very cool.

I saw a dog that looked just like your Teddy running down a somewhat busy street near my parents' subdivision. The owner was quite a few meters behind the dog and not able to keep up. Hopefully, the dog is home safe and sound.

<a href="#comment-501" rel="nofollow">@Lynda Abbott </a>
The Chatham is not a common model, but there are a few here and there. I know of a real beauty in Kirkwood, Missouri. I know they're others, but I can't recall at this early hour. Send me a pic of your house and I can tell you more. Also, how did you authenticate the house? thorntonrose@hotmail.com

We bought a 1935 Chatham. (In our Town Sears kit homes are common). I can't seem to find anyone who has a Chatham to get ideas from. When we moved in it as a amish makeover nightmare. I've been working to get it back to original. They also built on to the back for a larger kitchen. I am clueless on how the kitchen might of looked. We are lucky however, they have done very little to the sunroom, and the phone nitch it still here. But in their need to "modernize" it, it's crying for help. I'm not sure the inside doors are original, ect. I'm having a heck of a time finding anyone who has this model!

You know, there's a movie made by Warner Bros. called GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933, and in one of its musical numbers, Ruby Keeler actually wears a metal corset! :)

Maybe this product was their inspiration. ;)

Could a 1922 Crescent model have had pale yellow paint? Would the whole house have been the same? We are restoring the Miller House Museum and want to do it accurately. Thanks.

I think San Benito Texas has a handful of Sears Homes. Along Crockett and Reagan Streets in downtown...near the railroad. in the 1930's this was a very prominent and industrious town...I probably live in a sears house but i need to investigate it further...
